Bela Mahtabfar is a second-year MPH student at George Washington's Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH). Her unique experience with the diverse binational community of El Paso, Texas-Juarez, Mexico, has reinforced the importance of health education, health communication, health care access, and prevention. Bela's professional goals include using a combination of education and communication materials to help prevent ailments before they strike - whether environmentally, medically, behaviorally, genetically/physically, or socially. Through Bela's professional experiences, she understood that public and community health efforts must share responsibility for the long-term wellness of the at-risk through education, communication, improved processes, and proactive care. As GWSPH addresses community health promotion locally, nationally, and globally, Bela chose to pursue a concentration in Health Promotion and Communication to enable her to gain the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for those around her successfully and to promote overall health and well-being.
