We Are Unique
The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools works in the arena of student health. It is widely recognized for its positive impact on the local, state, national and international levels through its unique approach to systems change as well as the content expertise of its staff. Our work is:
Relational and Interconnected: We approach our work through diverse relationships among multi-sector partners and directly in connection to a school or district. We approach our work from the premise that all components of larger system are interconnected.
Centered on Systemic Transformation: We focus our work on any aspect of the system that might contribute to student well being including the physical environment, culture, communications, people, daily school practices, as well as policies and protocols.
Framed by a Public Health Lens: We approach our work from aspects rooted in the way public health experts approach that discipline: emphasizing equity, focusing on population health, emphasizing prevention, addressing root causes, mobilizing communities and partnerships, and employing continuous improvement models.
Grounded in Science and Multidisciplinary Methods: We approach our work by borrowing from a vast array of sciences, appropriately combining various aspects of each method including psychology, behavioral health, education, social science, and organizational behavior theory.
Focused on Sustainable Solutions: We approach our work focused on creating solutions that are sustained over time, thus having attributes such as community-driven, evidence-informed, comprehensive, communicable, and institutionalized/normalized within a system.
Values Driven: We approach our work from the values of equity empowering people and communities to work for and sustain positive solutions to maximizing student health and wellness.
